Sock Monkey

Here is a new friend for Omi. Actually he has to steal him back from his sister first. I was inspired to take up the challenge for the month of July from www.Loobyloo.com.au and although it is now mid august i'm proud to have finished him. As with all things it is best to begin somewhere and to try not to be too hard on myself. The sewing is very dodgy and after several attempts at embroidering the eyes i cheated with the ol' fabric glue. Still...it looks like the little person isn't complaining.

We have taken a trip to the library tonight and picked up some books on basic embroidery, quilting and applique so hopefully the road will be down hill in terms of difficulty and up hill in outstanding professional results.

In fact this whole new world of technology seems to be proving slightly harder than i thought so bare with me if you (is anyone out there?) keep reading the same things as i'm not quite sure how this whole blog thing works just yet.

Time for bed. Will share more projects tommorow. But for now need to get my mummy rest. Fingers crossed i get 5 hours uninteruppted. I don't think thats an unfair ask. Is it?

Here is a little something to start me on my way. I will be taking up a sewing course in the coming weeks as have decided it is about time i gained the basic skills to put some ideas into reality. I made this today whilst watching playschool with Aliya. It is pure wool felt and was very easy to make. I cut out a paper patty cake wrapper as a basic template and then just winged it. I thought that the pearl pins would look very pretty and finish of the cake decorating. I feel quite excited about the endless pin cushion possibilities surrounding food from the garden and kitchen. At least something is growing as my vegetable garden is looking very dire.

I will tell you (if anyone is interested?) more about that later.
